Cholanaickan
The Cholanaickan ( Cholanaickan - singular, Cholanaickar -Plural ) are a diminutive tribal community inhabiting the interior recesses of the forests of Nilambur valley of Malappuram district . They subsist on food gathering , hunting and collection of minor forest produces. They are totally illiterate and are shy and elusive . They speak a language with a heavy influence of Kannada. The cholanaickan lead an isolated life with very limited contact with the society at large. The per -1981 Censuses have failed to enumerate them . However, they have been identified as a primitive tribe by the Government of India in 1976 and consequent upon this the Cholanaickan have been brought under the protective canopy of tribal development programmes of the Government
